About Us

Eaton Rapids, located in the southeast corner of Eaton County, is proud to be “The only Eaton Rapids on Earth.” The city’s main business district is located on an island in the middle of the Grand River, hence its nickname as the “Island City.” Given its location, there are numerous bridges in town, including six drivable bridges and three foot bridges.

Founded in 1837 and officially becoming a city in 1881, Eaton Rapids has a rich history shaped by the Grand River’s power and the renowned “artesian” wells that once made it the “Saratoga of the West.” Visitors once flocked here by train for the mineral-rich waters and bathhouses, and while the past has shaped us, our small-town charm continues to thrive today.

Stroll through our charming downtown, where small shops and local businesses create a welcoming atmosphere. Enjoy a peaceful afternoon at Island Park, a favorite spot for family picnics and community gatherings. Step back in time at Miller Farm, where festivals and historical events bring Eaton Rapids’ heritage to life.

Each year, our Fourth of July Celebration and Hometown Family Christmas draw visitors from near and far, while seasonal festivals at Miller Farm continue to be a beloved tradition.

Our community takes immense pride in its unique character, and hometown spirit is at the heart of everything we do. Whether it’s a Friday night game or a town-wide celebration, you’ll hear the rallying cry loud and clear:

“We are ER!”
